Version 5 URL changed - Error: 'VEMap' is undefined on Via Virtual Earth Blog

It has been reported that the old url to access the Version5 javascript for Virtual Earth no longer works. This is effecting sites worldwide.

The correct way to reference the Version 5 javascript is:

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://dev.virtualearth.net/mapcontrol/mapcontrol.ashx?v=5"></script>

If you have been effected a forum thread has been started here

Silverlight Virtual Earth viewer on Via Virtual Earth Blog

With the launch of silverlight yesterday I was digging around and found this viewer for Virtual Earth by Greg Schechter. It does use the 1.1 alpha of silverlight. It gives some interesting ideas for where Virtual Earth could be headed. Certainly the demo of the performance of silverlight compared to javascript for processing showed a significant increase. This could be very useful.

And of course on the gamer front check this out by Andy Beaulieu and shoot down some UFO's over Birdseye images.

Derek Chan posts 3 Articles in a month! on Via Virtual Earth Blog

A big thank you to the efforts of Derek Chan who posted his third VE article today (he actually had it ready weeks ago but had to wait for Mr Bottleneck here at VVE ;) )

The 3 articles are all relivant to Version 5 of Virtual Earth and deal with the Mini Map, debugging javascript and now custom pins in routes.

All these can now be found in our articles section.

If you have something to contribute send us an email.

Virtual Earth Mobile - Embedd Virtual Earth Mobile in CF application

Embedd Virtual Earth Mobile in CF application by lonifasiko on 21 Nov 06 @ 15:35:00 UTC

I've seen this application working in my Windows Mobile 5.0 device only for the first time, after I properly configure the communication between my device and the Bluetoth GPS receiver I have. Then, after some hours, application does not work anymore, without having changes anything in the configuration. Incredible but true!

All the time throws me "Unable to obtain a location from a GPS device".

That's related to the application. What about the source code? I would really be interested in including this mapping functionality in my application. I've deployed the source code available for download, but the error is the same. I've also noticed it has got less options and that the source code version is not the same version as the .cab version available for download. Tried deploying both in WM 5.0 and WM 2003 but no success at all!

I must show the user where he currently is. Don't mind about the map technology I use, but I was wondering if I could continue using this Virtual Earth Mobile example. In fact, I'm really interested in using Virtual Earth technology in my Compact Framework application. Could anybody give me some hints or very basic steps please?

Thanks very much in advance.

hi

can you please provide me with a sample on how to access embedde virtual earth in my pocket pc app to look for an address (not by lat/long)

RE: Embedd Virtual Earth Mobile in CF application by lonifasiko on 15 Oct 07 @ 12:58:00 UTC

Don't know the way to look for an address in a CF application using VE. In fact, VE Mobile application does not work anymore with VE online maps (tiles changed a while ago). Now, that application has been replaced by "Live Search" application, a "closed" application by Microsoft whose source code is no longer available. A pity...

Regards.
